Conan O’Brien Host for 2025 Oscars

Conan O’Brien Announced as Host for 2025 Oscars

Comedian Conan O’Brien has been announced as the host of the 97th Academy Awards, marking his first time at the helm of Hollywood’s biggest night. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed the news on Friday, revealing that O’Brien will take over from late-night star Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the past two ceremonies.

“America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars,” O’Brien quipped in his statement, showcasing his signature humor about his new role.

The ceremony is set to air on March 2, 2025, live from Hollywood, California.

“[Conan O’Brien] is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies, and his live TV expertise,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang in a joint statement. “His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best — honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”

O’Brien, 61, is a celebrated comedian, writer, and producer who rose to fame as a late-night television host. Over the years, he has headlined Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, and Conan. Before his late-night career, he was a writer for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons.

No stranger to hosting, O’Brien has previously emceed the Emmy Awards twice, the MTV Movie Awards, and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on two occasions. He currently hosts the hit podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.

Reports indicate that the Academy approached several high-profile stars to host this year’s ceremony, including Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, and Dwayne Johnson, before landing on O’Brien. Both Jimmy Kimmel, a four-time Oscars host, and comedian John Mulaney reportedly declined the role.

O’Brien’s hosting debut is expected to bring fresh energy and humor to the Oscars, continuing his legacy as one of entertainment’s most beloved figures.
